We are spending lots of time on Social Studies and Science for the next couple weeks. We are catching up from all the days we skipped due to Milestone review. We are doing Lyndon B. Johnson, Cesar Chavez, and Thurgood Marshall in Socials Studies all week. Heat is the Science topic of the week. We are doing fun activities with those! Throughout the day, we are doing review of reading and math topics to keep the kids' sharp.

We are spending lots of time on Social Studies and Science for the next couple weeks. We are catching up from all the days we skipped due to Milestone review. We are doing economics in Socials Studies all week. MAGNETS are the Science topic of the week. We are doing fun activities with those! Throughout the day, we are doing review of reading and math topics to keep the kids' sharp. Here are the topics for this week:
We are reviewing , reviewing, and reviewing in reading, writing, and math for the Milestones. This is all the topics from the year. Here are the topics for this week:
Reading: We are spending the next 3 weeks reviewing topics for the Milestone. This week we are focusing on context clues, fables/folktales/myths, and morals/themes. The students seem to enjoy learning about fables and folktales. Grammar: We are spending the next 3 weeks reviewing topics in grammar as well. This week we are focusing on pronouns and adjectives (comparative and superlative). Writing: The students are practicing comparing and contrasting two passages on similar topics. This will prepare them for the Milestones. Math: We are beginning a one week unit on volume and mass. This includes reading measurements and understanding grams, kilograms, liters, and milliliters. We are continuing our daily multiplication test. PLEASE continue to practice multiplication facts because we are continuing to take our multiplication timed tests daily. We are taking a break from Science/Social Studies. During this time, we will be switching classes and grouping the students by levels to review reading and math standards from the beginning of the year. This is review/reinforcement for the Milestone! Here are the topics for this week: Reading: We are comparing 2 nonfiction stories. We will be comparing and contrasting similar stories. This is great preparation for the Milestone. Writing: The students are practicing comparing and contrasting two passages on similar topics. This will prepare them for the Milestones. Math: TIME! TIME! We are practicing telling time to the nearest minute. We are now expanding this unit to elapsed time. So far the students are doing pretty good with the concept. Please help your child at home. This is as easy as asking what is it at any random time! We are continuing our daily multiplication test. PLEASE continue to practice multiplication facts because we are continuing to take our multiplication timed tests daily. We are taking a break from Science/Social Studies. Reading: We are comparing 2 nonfiction stories. We will be comparing and contrasting similar stories. This is great preparation for the Milestone. Grammar: We are discussing the use of punctuation in dialogue. This includes commas, quotation marks, and end punctuation. Writing: The students are practicing comparing and contrasting two passages on similar topics. This will prepare them for the Milestones. Math: TIME! TIME! We are practicing telling time to the nearest minute. Please help your child at home. This is as easy as asking what is it at any random time! We are continuing our daily multiplication test. PLEASE continue to practice multiplication facts because we are continuing to take our multiplication timed tests daily. We are taking a break from Science/Social Studies. Reading: For Dr. Seuss' birthday, we are comparing 2 fiction stories. We will be comparing and contrasting similar stories. This should be so fun!! Grammar: We are discussing the use of commas specifically when addressing people in sentences. Writing: The students are practicing comparing and contrasting two passages on similar topics. This will prepare them for the Milestones. Math: The students did good with line plots, so now we are incorporating measuring. The students will measure objects and then graph them on the line plot. We are continuing our daily multiplication test. PLEASE continue to practice multiplication facts because we are continuing to take our multiplication timed tests daily. Social Studies: We are reviewing the branches of government again. There is an executive, legislative, and judicial branch for all 3 levels. The levels are National, State, and Local. Reading/Grammar: We are doing lots of review activities that are hopefully fun for the students. This includes adjectives, nouns, cause and effect, and more! Writing: The students are using their imagination with fictional narrative. Math: We are reviewing the main concepts of fractions. Also, we are discussing line plots. We are incorporating food, so the students are happy! We are continuing our daily multiplication test. PLEASE continue to practice multiplication facts because we are continuing to take our multiplication timed tests daily. Social Studies: We are learning about Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt. It should be fun to learn about a husband and wife. We are also learning about Mary McLeod Bethune. Here are the topics for this week:
Reading: We are reviewing point of view! But just first and third person point of view! Grammar: Conjunctions continued! Also, we are talking about capitalization specifically titles! Writing: We are revisiting "How-To" writing. They are creating their specific "How-To" project. They are using the iPads to take pictures of their step by step process for their topic. They will then create a poster of their topic with the pictures and written. This will all be done in school! Math: We are learning the about comparing fractions. We are continuing our daily multiplication test. PLEASE continue to practice multiplication facts because we are continuing to take our multiplication timed tests daily. Social Studies: We have started Social Studies again! We are learning about Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt. It should be fun to learn about a husband and wife! Reading: We are combining character traits and sequence of events. We are using Martin Luther King as the example to describe all his requirements. Grammar: The students will continue to learn about adverbs. This will go more in depth with superlative and comparative adverbs. Writing: We are revisiting "How-To" writing. They are creating their specific "How-To" project. They are using the iPads to take pictures of their step by step process for their topic. They will then create a poster of their topic with the pictures and written. This will all be done in school! Math: We have the taken shapes unit and combined it with fractions. Th first week of fractions in identifying them on a number line. We are continuing our daily multiplication test. PLEASE continue to practice multiplication facts because we are continuing to take our multiplication timed tests daily. Science: We are wrapping a several week unit on habitats. There will be a habitat test on TUESDAY. We are doing a quick couple days of pollution/recycling. This will give students an overview to prepare them for a more in depth unit in 4th grade. |
